What are Clearblue Pregnancy Tests and How Do They Work?
Generally, whether you are looking to be pregnant or not, the first sign of pregnancy is when your period doesn’t start. There are other signs as well, such as the swelling of breasts, morning sickness and tiredness. That’s the time to check if you are pregnant or not with a home pregnancy test.
These tests detect human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG), which is a hormone produced by the body about a week after the conception. Traces of this hormone are found in the urine.
Generally, the level of hCG produced by the body doubles every two to three days after conception and reaches its peak at about 7 to 12 weeks into the pregnancy. It then stays at this level for up to three weeks after the birth of the child. They remain high for about 9 weeks if there is a miscarriage.
The Clearblue pregnancy test detects the presence of the hCG hormone in the urine and is about 99% accurate. These tests are very sensitive; they give you accurate results and can be used for up to 4 days before you have a period due.
So you will know almost immediately whether you are “Pregnant” or “Not Pregnant” – there is no confusion of any sort in the test results.
You can trust Clearblue as they are the leading makers of home pregnancy tests in the UK, recommended by most doctors. They are fast, reliable and more accurate than any other home pregnancy test on the market. Plus, they are discrete and private.
How Does a Pregnancy Test Done at Home Differ from Those Done By a Doctor?
Generally, when you go to a clinic, a blood test is done to check for traces of H.C.G., to detect if you are pregnant or not. Many doctors use home pregnancy tests to verify the results of the blood tests. Both blood tests and Clearblue tests check for traces of the hCG hormone in the body.
What Should I Do If My Test Results are Positive?
If your test results come out as positive, you should have a detailed discussion with your doctor about your pregnancy and what to do next. The doctor would tell you about the precautions to be taken.
If the test results are negative, but you still suspect that you might be pregnant, then perform another home pregnancy test a few days later to confirm. If you test too early, the test results could come out as negative because there isn’t enough hCG created as yet by the body.
How is a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test Done?
It’s very easy to perform a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test. Just remove the Test Stick from the foil wrapper and take the cap off. Next, hold the Absorbent Sampler and soak it in the urine stream with the tip pointing down for about five seconds.
Another way to do it is to collect your urine sample in a dry container and immerse the Absorbent Sampler in it for not more than 20 seconds.
As you remove the Absorbent Sampler, the display on the egg timer starts flashing “Wait” for about 3 minutes and then gives you the result, whether you are “Pregnant” or “Not Pregnant”. This result will remain on the display for the next 24 hours.
How to interpret your results:
The test results window will show you if your are pregnant or not. If you are pregnant, the conception indicator can tell you how many weeks gone you are.
When Should I Take a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test?
These tests can be taken up to 4 days before your periods are due. There is a chance that you may have tested too early, days before the period is due and get a “Not Pregnant” result.
If you suspect that you still might be pregnant, do the test again a couple of days later, to give enough time for the build up of the hCG hormones. This time the test results would be far more accurate.
If you are testing from the date your period should be due, then you will get an accurate result on any time of the date. Just make sure to test your first urine of the day after waking up.
How to Make Sure That the Test Results are Accurate? Is There Anything I should Avoid Taking Before the Test?
Clearblue tests are very accurate and are not affected by alcohol, oral contraceptives, painkillers, antibiotics and other common medicines. They can be affected only if you take medicines that contain hCG. That could lead to a positive result, even if you are not pregnant. If you are not sure about the results of the tests for some reason and are worried that your period has not arrived still, consult with your doctor as soon as possible.

After getting a positive result on some cheap pregnancy tests, I bought this Clearblue one to confirm my positive. Gave me peace of mind and the weeks indicator was a bonus.
